2 PETER 3:9
"The Lord is not really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, HE IS BEING PATIENT FOR YOUR SAKE. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."
I for one would like to see the Lord come today. I would rather be in heaven with the Lord and in perfection than to continue in this corrupt world. As a true believer, we do not fear death, for to be absent from our body is to be present with the Lord. In our hearts is the desire to be with the Lord eternally in Heaven. We also desire that those we know and love come and believe in Jesus Christ, so that they can be saved from eternal separation from God. If the Lord came today, as we hoped, then how many of those we love would be lost forever? When you compare being in heaven with the Lord or destruction and eternal damnation for non believer's, then our only rational position is that the Lord delay His coming. For the sake of others we accept and understand why the Lord has delayed His Day of Judgement.
Lets not forget that a day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and that a thousand years is like a day to Him. His time is not our time and our lives are lived in relativity to His. So when we say delay it is beyond our understanding in some cases. Do not worry, the day of the Lord is coming for everyone, it will be swift and unexpected, like a thief in the night. The Lord is not slack or tardy as some think according to their mortal conception. The truth is the Lord is long suffering and patient toward those who need to be saved. He does not a single person to perish or suffer the second death. It is for their sake that He delays His coming. He awaits their repentance.
Forgive those of us who would prefer that the day of the Lord be today. It is a selfish motive to leave this body and world behind and obtain our heavenly body and mansion as the Lord promised. We will try and understand and then we will succeed in realizing the justice and mercy of the Lord. FOR THE SAKE OF THE UNBELIEVER THE LORD'S DAY HAS BEEN DELAYED!
