THE SUM OF THE LAW

GALATIANS 5:14

"For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: love your neighbor as yourself."

Why did God give us the 10 commandments? Why did God give us the Word and all the instruction found therein? The bible is the owners manual for the believer and as such it is the most complete book ever written. It is thorough and complete and perfect without error. Yet we can ask a question about the truth for today. Is it possible to sum up the concepts of the bible in one command? The answer is yes.

The whole law concerning human relationships is found in this one command of God. All the law is fulfilled in this one command. You can comply with the precepts of God if you fulfill this one command. LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF! Another way to say this is that you are to treat everyone else the way you want to be treated. You must give to anyone else the same care and concern that you desire. You can not treat others in any other way then you want to be treated. That really does sum up the whole goal of any life.

Do you treat your parents the way you want to be treated? Do you treat your children the way you want to be treated? Do you treat your brothers and sisters the way you want to be treated?
Do you treat your next door neighbors the way you want to be treated? Do you treat people of other races, sexes, religions and appearance the way you want to be treated? Do you treat your enemies the way you want to be treated? Do you love your neighbor as you do yourself? Are you obeying God's command?
